I wanted to try something that is hopefully a little fun. A sire of the week thread where we discuss a sim sire a bit. Throw out any info you have or like on the sire , how you would breed to him, what type of runners he might produce best, any experience with using him, stuff you may have dug up on a website on him, things like that. Or if you hate him let us know why. Lets get this thing started with Silic (FR) I chose Silic (FR) because he is currently number 3 on the sires list in the states despite only having 29 runners. One of his runners Gladiatorus has earned like 95% of his earning this year with multiple wins in Dubai. In the Sim he produced a couple of stakes winners including a winner of the Cougar Bite Classic. He is cheap at the end of the week costing like 26 points, and has not really be used much in the sim. **** Added at the end of Week****** links for those horses bred this week. I have looked at using Silic many, many times but have never quite pulled the trigger on him.
Even though he was a miler - and it looks like Gladitorus is a miler or long spinter - I think with the right DS/DDS combo you could get a decent long router. On the turf, of course.
Also, I will be watching for when Gladitorus will retire to stud.

Here is another thing I would like to do with the Sire of the week. I would like amongst the group to breed both two year olds and three year old available to the sire. I have done this with sires in the past and usually I get at least one pretty good runner from the bunch. Maybe we try this as sort of an experiment? Pair him with any type of mares or retired mares they do not have to be bargains. All right lets get this party started. www.thoroughbredtimes.com/stallion-directory/stallion.aspx?stallion_no=3092070always love sires that have pages on Bloodhorse or Thoroughbred Times. I do like looking at the sires real life stats to get breeding ideas. I am sure that sort of thing is NOT built into the program here but I often find there is a correlation plus it can be an interesting talking point. What I like - He raced at two, three, four and five. Won some nice races like the Breeder's Cup Mile, and Shoemaker Mile (twice). The Shoemaker is a G1 now and probably one of the more prestigious one mile turf races in the states outside the Breeders Cup. Love the pedigree, and his offspring find the winners circle fairly well and win races at two. In the Sim - Used very little but some solid runners mixed in those offspring including a successful BBRS runner. Pedigree fits well with a multitude of dam sires. Two stakes winners for a 5.3% which might be one of the top percentages for sires in his price range. I will be back later for more jump on in anywhere you like.

Ahh chose to use a dam sire from the Mr. Prospector line and use the dam's dam sire to inbreed to Blushing Groom. I like the way the pedigree looks.
I like and think the Mr. Prospector sire line fits pretty well with Silic's pedigree...but... I sometimes have problems getting Mr. P line dam sires to produce turf runners. I think Kingmambo, Chester House, Seeking the Gold and Machiavellian are good selections. On the less expensive side Numerous is a solid turf producing Mr. P sire.
I am a fan of 4 x 4 inbreeding of Northern Dancer so breeding back to the Northern Dancer line with a grandson would give us that inbreeding. There are some big time dam sire choices here like Danehill, Storm Cat and Theatrical. Some nice middle tier types like Royal Academy, Green Dancer, and Caerleon. Bargain types are plentyful which could make choosing a good one more difficult. I have had luck using Czaravich. Skimming seems a good choice, Furiously is cheap, has a great pedigree but has not been used a lot as a dam sire.
I kind of like using sires from the Roberto line like Dynaformer, Lear Fan, Kris S, or Red Ransom. For bargain types sons of these sires could be interesting.
Seattle Slew line sires might be nice. Slew City Slew is not real expensive he can produce some turf runners. There are probably a few sons of AP Indy that would fit here.
Some more obscure sire types like Domedriver, Diesis would be a good middle tier choice, or Top Ville.
Can anyone think of some inexpensive dam sires? They like with Silic.

Morgan,
I pretty much thought of Kingmambo right away. I like BG and Mr. P lines together. I would have preferred to use Kingmambo and Caerleon but then it wouldn't be a bargain bred - plus I couldn't afford it. The DDS slot came down to a choice of 4x4 to ND or BG or using a sire from the Hail To Reason line. A wise simster once taught me about using Mr. P with Hail To Reason. ;D

I would love to try SILIC x UNBRIDLED x NUREYEV Two of the more popular crosses lately are Fappiano/Blushing Groom and Sadlers Wells/his close relatives Fairy King and Nuryev. Why not try both!?!? But i'm scared. That's alot of points. So, here's the bargain bred alternative: Time : 5/16/2009 9:22:55 AM Preferred Male Name SLIDEWAYS DRIVE Preferred Female Name SLIDEWAYS DRIVE Horse to Eliminate LIVING SOUL(KY) Using Horse For Breeding No Age of New Horse 2 Breeding Location CA ID Horse Cost Still Available Aprox Start Credit Option? 2yo 3yo DS DDS Sire SILIC (FR) [2x] 33 2 0 2 1 Started! That bargain two year old can race in a couple of weeks on 100 Guineas day I have two maidens on the turf for that week.
With our sire of the weeks we do not have to restrict ourselves to bargain breds so if you want to spend a few credits go ahead.
I have had success putting lesser sires with expensive dam sires. Just look at some of Gold Legends retired runners ;D I got a G1 winner using Northern Dancer x Blushing Groom and a G3 winner using Strawberry Road x The Minstrel. I have an active soon to retire graded placed mare by Gold Legend. I used a well bred retired mare with Sadler's Wells x Alydar. That might be the exception to the rule but I do have more examples with different sires.

WOW !! looks like Silic gets a legitimate shot at producing a pretty good runner with that pedigree.
I may use him next week as well, I kind of like his prospects as a less expensive sire.
After the update I will post links for the runners so we can track their progress.

According to G1Goldmine, Gladiatorus is the only group/graded winner by Silic to date, but what a horse he is. Although he failed in his latest run in England, he is currently the highest rated horse in the world, according to the IFHA ( www.horseracingintfed.com/home.asp?lang=e), due to his incredible victory in the Dubai Duty Free (1777m or almost 9 furlongs). One good horse is not much to go on, but it shows potential. In sim terms, Gladiatorus is bred => Silic x Kris x Blushing Groom. He is in fact inbred 3m x 3f to Blushing Groom through his son Sillery and his daughter Al Bahathri.

Silic must be getting more looks based on Gladiatorus I bred one too without seeing this thread. Wasnt a true bargain as it cost 105 pre give back so wouldnt qualify for the series. Stinks anyway so I doubt it will be with me long.
