It has been a while since our last sire. This time around I wanted to touch on a sire that is way over looked in the sim. Montbrook has produced 12 graded stakes winners from 14 crops so close to one a year. He gets stakes winners at about a 6% clip which is very solid.
Yet here in the sim he struggles to even get stakes winners. He had four, one time stakes winners in a recent crop and outside that nothing.
This sire produces some brilliant runners like Big Drama, Shake You Down, Out of the Box, Trust N Luck, Chapel Royal, and Snuck In. I scratch my head at his sim production and maybe it can be chalked up to the lack of use in the sime where he is only used about 18-20 times a year.
I have used him once in the past Looming Darkness - Opera House X Shergar. She was what I would think is pretty typical of Montbrook offspring. A pretty solid two and three year old and then faded as she got older. She earned $134k and won a couple of allowances, a useful type
Montbrook's price does fluctuate a bit but at the end of the week is down around 50-60 points. I think he is pretty ideal for the August discount at the end of the week where you can pair him up with some solid mid level dam sires. He could make a solid bargain sire but I would prefer to use him with more expensive dam sires.
His pedigree is awesomely flexible with him being out of the Buckpasser line free and clear of any Mr. Prospector, or Northern Dancer.
He would also seem a solid choice as a dam sire especially with bargain breds.

You would think he would be used more. He's the best Buckpasser line stallion still around, right? I used him twice. Both claimers, but both winners. If I were to try again, I would go a different direction than before. As you mentioned, Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector would almost have to be in there. I would add Turn-To line somewhere in there. But, Nasrullah and Princequillo-heavy pedigrees would be the focus. Sounds like a good project for this weekend!

Woah. Deserve a shot at the limelight with that one! Good luck. Here's some real life stats for Montbrook. First up, he already has a son (Thunderello) at stud that has produced a multiple graded winner (Monterey Jazz - 1 Gr2, 2 Gr3's). Montbrook has produced 2 Gr1 winners (Trust N Luck, Outofthebox), 3 Gr2 winners and 7 Gr3 winners. Only two of them (Shake You Down and Chapel Royal) have managed multiple Gr wins. All won in the USA. 10 of the 12 are males. 11 of the 12 won their Gr races on dirt. Only 1 won a staying Gr race, the balance were evenly sprint and middle distance. 5 won Gr races at 2 years, 6 did it at 3 years, and only 2 managed the big time as older horses. That all suggests that he would be most likely to produce early dirt sprinter milers, mostly colts. The most common names in the pedigrees of the dams of his Gr winners are: Bold Ruler (58%), Nasrullah (50%) and Northern Dancer (42%). The pedigrees of the dams of his graded winners make for interesting reading: Dahar x Boldnesian Notebook x Roi Dagobert Rajab x On To GloryCutlass x Never Bend Baldski x Winged T Mugassas x Full Pocket Derby Wish x Tilt Top Valid Appeal x Notebook *** Notebook x Hyperborean On To Glory x Regal And Royal Distinctive x Cornish Prince Valid Appeal x Notebook *** *** Full siblings, both Gr3 winners, filly and colt Anyone think that maybe he has an affinity for Notebook?

Yikes don't be doing that or you'll lend credance to the people who think any sire can produce with a stellar backend. Great job!
