I am sort of a stats geek at times so when I first started playing the game and I realized the game does not have a tool that provides me with a yearly break down of my individual stables I started keeping track on my own.
2010 was a an interesting year for my group of stables. I run 17 stables. This year had entered into 121 less races than I did the year before (1808 in 2010, 1929 in 2009). in fact this is my lowest number of races since 2006 when I was running 15 stables.
Still with 100+ less races I had only 4 fewer wins than last year, 231 to 235. I placed in races 6 more times in 2010 compared to 2009 and showed in races 6 less times in 2010 compared to 2009. It is really weird with 100 less races to end up with close to the same number of times hitting the board.
I did earn 414 BPs less than I did last year. I averaged 9.6 BPs a start this year so I think if I had run my horses more often I would have surpassed last years BP total easily.
In these numbers I try to look at patterns. I think in a lot of ways these numbers really help me see where I can improve. This year I think I stayed away from project horses ( horses with nice pedigrees but poor race records), and I dumped horses that could not run a little sooner than I normally did. I also dropped runners to claimers sooner than I normally did no matter the pedigree especially with my 4 and 5 year old colts.
Somethings I noted about 2010 was that I raced nearly every runner I had on 4 weeks rest. In the past only my allowance / stakes horses ran on a 4 week schedule my claimers ran mostly every 3 weeks. While my barns were full some times, I think I carried fewer horses in the stables overall. Part of that was it taking me time to breed or claim back horses I put in the auction or lost to claims. I placed my horses much better than I have in the past which was something I was trying to accomplish.
I did not intend to run less, although my school / work schedule probably dictated that more than I think. I cant say I saw a notable difference in my claimers being better on 4 weeks rest rather than 3 weeks. I may revert back to a three week schedule with some of them.
For 2011 I think I will try much the same, just placing runners better and keep on breeding the bargains. ;D
