Sorry if I'm stepping on feet here with the intro thread thing. Just found this place and wanted to say hello all you bargain breeders.
That's about all I have for now - glad this board exists. I'll post more interesting comments at a later time (since it's bedtime now).

You are not stepping on any feet any around here. We probably need a thread like this, thanks for the great idea for a thread. So a little about me, one of my favorite subjects I live in Irving Texas a suburb of Dallas. I am about 8 miles from Lone Star Park and am usually there 2-3 times a week during live racing. All the racing picks you see on the site where taken at Lone Star by me. The exception is the pick on the front page which I borrowed from Hawkz. I will eventually posts more picks I have some pretty good ones. I am a huge fan of Texas racing and really enjoy Texas sires. Which is one of the reasons I like bargain breds in the game so much. I am going to school part time specifically learning to program games and simulation programs, so between work, school, sim and the track I don't do much else. While I was born and raised in Dallas I cannot stand the Cowboys. I am a Broncos fan, although the new coach seems to be doing everything in the world to turn me against them. I like Basketball, and Hockey really most sports, Aussie rules football comes on late nights here on one of my sports channels and I find myself getting caught up in those games.

I have been playing the game for less than 1 yr. and this is without a doubt the best SIM horse-racing game on the net. While I'm still trying to learn the game I have read just about all of the info. Knightmare has posted on the BB series home page and hats off to you for maintaining and creating this fun series.
I recently retired from the accounting profession and currently plan to split my time between my home in Flint, MI and a "shack" I just bought in Arkansas. (to get away from the MI winters) I'm a fan of Baseball and Hockey, enjoy spending time with my three sons and go to the track here in MI at Sports Creek Raceway often. When in Arkansas I'm about two hours from Oaklawn Park and would like to go there one day.
My favorite horse of all time is a standardbred trotting mare named River Ridge, which I own, and who raced in MI in the early 90's at several MI. tracks. She won 20 of 61 races. Now at age 18 she's just a liability to me but there's no way I could ever get rid of her.
Good Luck to everyone in the BBR series.

I feel like I owe you all something about me now that you've written so much about yourself.
Been in the sim for just under a year (beginning of June I think will make it a year). Anyhow, really enjoying the challenge of it all and feel that the BBRS is by far one of the most entertaining aspects of the sim. It really is the only series/race/etc. that puts everyone on equal footing.
As I said before, I'm happy this board is alive and the BBRS appears to be growing.

Bargain breeding is very finicky but can be done with solid returns if your goals are realistic. They take a lot of homework and prep time. If you keep on it you will find some nice bargain sires you like using.
I'm a sim addict. I grew up watching trotters in Maine. Joey Five Cents was my favorite horse. He didn't win much, but he was family owned, and when he got a good trip every once in a while he ran all to beat hell.
My favorite sim sire I won't name lol! My favorite DS is Interprete.

By the way, I am totally psyched about this message board! This will add a whole new dimension to bargain racing as we can share our bargain runners, and sort of get more connection to the horses in the races!
To be able to message about bargains is just awesome! Thanks Knightmare! Finding this made my day, and I am super grateful for the series. If I wasn't so damn broke I would be donating credits. Seems like I never have money, and if I do I spend on food for my neighbors since there is a lot of poverty here. I live in the Philippines with my wife while we keep going through a tough time getting her a visa. It has been two and a half years. I got to tell you, if it wasn't for bargains and Mike's sim I would go crazy. I haven't raced much in your series, but I follow it, and I hope to get some runners in. I just was very busy the last two months.
I guess I should also tell a little more about me. Besides I can't stand getting steroid typed for marrying a Filipina. My wife is 32 and a very well educated, intelligent, and caring woman. She is my better half, and my best friend. We chose to stay together after meeting, because quite frankly we rather live life together with little funds than be better financially apart. Like I said if I had more money I would buy some races. I was spending on the sim for a while but Immigration fees have me broke now. We hope to be in states later this year. Hopefully by September.

OK, i'll give this a shot. I'm just a regular guy with a regular retail job. I used to walk hots at the race track, progressed to mucking stalls, feeding and light grooming, some stuff happened, and now I miss it. I came across this game several years ago and saw a few of the horses I had worked with in the stallion lists and have been hooked ever since! Oh, and bargain breeding is some of the most fun in the game to me, obviously!

Lebowski,
Alright, we have something in common. I also married a filipina. She's living in Canada. We're still doing the whole immigration thing. In fact, she has her medical exam tomorrow morning. I say she's "living" there. She was working there as a nanny until her psychotic boss fired her. Now she's staying with friends in a big city. Hopefully, she'll get her interview appointment and I can get her here pretty quickly. If she ends up getting deported back to the Philippines, I may be joining you there.

Hi everyone,
I just joined the message board. My name is John I've been in the Sim about a year. I live in Avon, Ohio which is near Cleveland.
I have a stable named bargainfun that is mostly bargain breds. I've managed to win a few races, though nothing more than maiden claimers.
I have a question about what is eligible for a bargain horse. When I breed a "bargain" I generally give a horse back to the cpu which allows me to go over 100 pts and still get the bargain discount. Typically these horses are in the 110-125 range, but after giving the horse back and the 50% discount they are always under 50 pts total. Are these horses considered "bargains" or do you have to stick to below 100 pts?
Thanks
John

Welcome John,
As far as the races in this series are concerned the breeding needs to cost less than 100 points before any discounts. There are a couple of reasons, but number one is it makes it much easier to confirm breeding costs.
Equally as important is that I want the playing field as even as possible for the series. 20 points does not sound like a big amount but the extra points allow sires that would not normally be bargain breds qualify. You could for instance use a 200 point DDS paired with a really cheap sire and dam sire and get a bargain, when that DDS would never ever qualify in a bargain pedigree other wise. You could use a 100 point sire or a 100 point dam sire.
I have been in the game long before any discounts where available, I want to keep the series as pure and simple as possible.

Hello all. My name is Josh. I've lived in many places in my life, but currently reside in central Pennsylvania, where I'm a sports writer for a newspaper. I live with my fiancee and our two dogs.
I have been playing the sim for about 1 1/2 years, although there were some hiatuses in there. All told, I've probably actually been playing for about half that time or so.
I'm addicted to breeding, and while it's still a learning process for me, I tend to learn by doing, so I'm trying all sorts of things. That's part of the reason I love bargain breds. It's easy to do some reasearch and then try some things out at the end of the week and see how they turn out, all without incurring a high cost. So far I haven't had much success (I've had one, poor run in a BBR Series event last year), but my hope is that throughout this year I'll start to find more success.

Hey everybody! Marc here. Sim addict and have been playing since week 131, that was in 2000 or something.
As a South African, and a true believer in the quality of our horses (Morgan is probably sick of how I go on about them by now), many of my sim-breds have been bargain breds. Lately I've tended to give up on completely SAf-breds, instead matching SAf-based sires with sim blue-bloods in the DS and DDS slots. Success hasn't been easy to come by.

Glad to see a MB come up here.
I am Mark live in Delaware and have been playing the sim for about 2 1/2 yrs or so. I have been experimenting more with Bargains recently and have had some nice success recently with Slave to Tradition and also got a 3rd place finish by a maiden in the Belmont race.
I'll be trying to breed some twos for the Bargain Breeder's races later in the year.
