This is a place to post about Bargain Breds you have that are running well outside the series races. For example... Quart Low has been trying to get back on track and with a win two back and a nice allowance race this past week he looks like he could be a player a little later on this summer in the Summer Classic. or Demari is finally starting to look like a good runner taking an allowance last time out. She has always been just a little too slow to run up against some of the turf runners in the series but she may take a stab a little later this summer. This type runner is why I like bargain breds, you can bring them along through claimers sometimes and people will not claim them. It allows you to run them at a level they will be competitive and maybe they develop into a pretty solid runner later.

Nice ones there Morgan. Here's one that I don't think quite qualifies as a bargain bred. She is a random breed, probably the best one of those I've had, and I surely wouldn't have picked the breeding out on my own. Bump Stop

Recon Shop looks pretty solid at a mile as well. I know he is going pretty solid right now but have you considered stretching him out? He has not run over 8f and really I think he could handle some extra distance.
Brite Adam has a dosage index of 1.91, Richman ran routes, Caracolero's dosage is 0.80 so there is quite a bit of stamina in that pedigree.
I might stretch him out to 9f or 9.5f and then out to 10f and see what happens. He is kind of in that no mans land of not being quite good enough to compete well in 2x or 3L company at his current distances. Maybe at a longer distance he is better suited to compete at that level. Worst case scenario if he does not like going longer he should be set up for some improvement when he cuts back in distance.

OK, here are a few I've bred using bargain sires. Again, as with most of my breedings using bargain sires I've used more expensive DS/DDS's. Easing Along is a sire I used 6 times last year. He didn't do much on the track himself but is a top sire in Argentina. In fact, he is so good there that he started shuttling to the northern hemisphere to stand at Claiborne Farm. His breeding is Storm Cat x Alydar x Buckpasser. Of the 6 I bred, 4 of them are winners. Easing WestFappi's EaseSilver EaseGhosting AlongHere's one I claimed with an eye toward using as a he-mare, though I'm not too sure now. Royal JackBeing from Oklahoma, this one is kind of a favorite of mine....the sire is named Oh Oklahoma. ;D New ShoesOne more. I loved the breeding on the sire (Rainbow Quest x Roberto0 and he was only available for 3yo breedings last year. So I really decided to give him a chance with a more than decent DS/DDS combo. Right now he goes for a whopping 17 BPs so I might be using him as a DS/DDS in some bargain breedings. He's a multiple graded winner. His name......................Raintrap. Trapped in a Well

I've been wanting to stretch him out, but after a couple mile races in a row he comes back groggy or worse. That, and the fact that he runs ok in sprints makes me a little hesitant. I'm sure i'll try it when the right opportunity comes along. Wow, some pretty sweet bargains in this thread!

My best option for RECON SHOP this week was a 9.5f allowance. I just hope he doesn't break down. Heck, maybe i'll aim for the Arc de Maleleve if he does well!

Falling into the category of bargain sires with more expensive backends, Static Zarb became my first ever homebred runner to win a race, and in his debut no less. He ran a 72 first time out over 5 furlongs on turf and his run was very promising. He is HELIOSTATIC X (RAINBOW QUEST X DANCING CHAMP) I bred Helio at the end of the week to an open mare. derbyfever.com/hr/runtime/prettyhorse.asp?hossnum=187049

Recon Shop did his best to confuse the matter a little more. Now the way I have always approached the sim is that if you runner runs the same speed figures at 6f as he does at 9f, you will be more competitive and win more at 9f. So I know he was losing ground at the end but I do not think that is an indication of whether he liked the distance or not. The speed figure was solid, and really it is in a way a nice problem to have. He seems to be versatile enough to run at multiple distances meaning you have more options. I would probably continue to stretch him out if he can run 94 at 12f if placed correctly he could win a listed stakes. As an example here is one I claimed Dream Baby When I claimed him he had 3 career wins and he has to be the best older horse I have ever run. Now his stakes days where not long they occurred in 2006 but he won a 13f turf stakes with a 90 speed figure. Now speed figure wise he has been solid to good but never has run a 100 speed figure. But you can see how productive a runner can be if they run 90-95 speed figures over 11f. You want to talk about racking up BPs I estimate in the last year he has earned me 300+ BPs.

He came back Little Groggy. I don't know, we'll see how he recovers. He's set for The Everglades, but if he doesn't come up Sharp, he may sit out. Nice job with Dream Baby! Good point earner! Check this one out: derbyfever.com/hr/runtime/prettyhorse.asp?hossnum=58800My best horse - a $5000 claim. She stretched out real nice!
